Casual Turtle Campers are designed to be simple, comfortable, and attractive – while staying lightweight and low-profile.  Every dimension is carefully determined – the height, width, and length are optimized to make a camper that is as streamlined yet functional as possible.  Staying small allows for a camper design that can work with almost any pickup without expensive modifications, is easy to install and remove, and doesn't affect the truck’s handling nearly as much as other campers.

Roof

Perhaps the most compelling design element is the domed roof – arched both aft-to-fore and port-to-starboard. This strong design results in maximum headroom where needed (in the galley area) while keeping it low profile, as well as adding to the overall aerodynamics of the camper.  Also, this roof design sheds rain and snow exceedingly well.    

Materials

Armed with a deep understanding of the physical and mechanical properties of wood products, we carefully choose our materials to achieve a simple, lightweight craft while never sacrificing structural integrity.  From our north Idaho framing materials, to our custom cloth headliner  – every material and hardware choice is made carefully and deliberately.

Western Red Cedar

Because of the natural beauty, durability, and light weight of Western red cedar, it is used in 100% of the exposed exterior of our campers. Its uniform grain and texture, low rate of shrinkage, and superior resistance to decay, moisture, and insects make it a premium natural building material.  Also, because cedar takes a finish so well, Casual Turtle Campers require only occasional maintenance.

Handmade

Casual Turtle Campers are handmade, built one at a time – and as such, may take up to 12 weeks to complete.  Because our campers aren’t mass-produced, this leaves room for flexibility of design – both exterior and interior.  This also means that we can design a bespoke camper that fits both the vehicle and user.  Please get in touch to discuss unique applications; mobile writing shack, studio, ski lodge, etc.
